Although known as the University Church, St Mary's welcomes everyone whether they are members of the university or not.
Being a parish Church we hold regular services, traditional in style but also informal and accessible.
Being the University Church means that the University's official religious services happen here twice a term and from time to time we host other University events such as memorial services.
10.30 am Sung Eucharist (Common Worship)
This is our principal Sunday service, with music, lively sermons and a friendly atmosphere. Coffee is served in the chancel after the service.
6.00pm Evening Service (Common Worship)
From time to time at 6pm there are special services, for example, the Advent Carol Service on the first Sunday in December. In the summer months out of University Term we have Choral Evensong. When a 6pm service is due to take place it will be advertised on the front page of our website and in our weekly pew sheet and e-newsletter.
10.30 am Sunday school
Children at St Mary’s are warmly invited to attend our Sunday School during the 10:30 am service. During our Sunday school we have a small liturgy, discuss a theme, and often make something to take home. The St Mary’s Sunday School is a parent-run group. Please feel free to join us: introduce yourself after the service, or e-mail Louise Jarvis
9.30am (First Sunday of the Month) Family worship
The family service is in the chancel, lasts half an hour, and is very accessible for children of all ages. It includes lively, informative presentations and well-known songs and hymns, with informal refreshments afterwards.
German Lutheran services
The Oxford German Lutheran community meets in St Mary's for services in German at 3.30 pm on the first Sunday of each month (except for January and August, and December when there is an Advent Service at 6pm).
